Description of research Analysis of research contributions Choice of research papers for the subject scientist Choice of competitor papers Proposals for future research
A: provides a clear, well-developed and concise description of the research that consistently uses relevant details from the paper to clarify the importance and significance of the work A: presents a thorough and significant analysis of the value of the subject's contributions to the identified field; clearly shows the value of the work relative to competing researchers A: chooses papers that clearly present important new information, are clearly significant to the field, are among the most important by the subject A: identifies papers that consistently demonstrate the scientific context of the subject's work; the papers either directly compete with the subject's or provide a fuller understanding of the state of the field as a whole A: presents a significant number of well-developed ideas for future research by the subject; the ideas creatively exploit information from the papers referenced in the work
B: is generally clear and well-developed and frequently uses details from the paper to clarify the importance and significance of the work B: generally analyzes the value of the subject's contributions; attempts to show the value of the work relative to competitors B: most of the papers present important new information, are significant to the field and are among the most important by the subject B: identifies papers providing some context to the subject's work; most of the papers are closely related to the subject's own work B: presents some ideas for future research that exploit information from the papers
C: is not consistently clear or well-developed and could benefit from more detail to clarify the importance and significance of the work C: is inconsistent in providing analysis of the subject's contributions and value of the work relative to competitors C: most of the papers are of limited importance to the field, present less important results and/or are not among the most important by the subject C: identifies papers that provide a limited sense of the context of the subject's work; few of the papers are closely related to the subject's own work C: presents few ideas for future research and/or fails to exploit information from the papers
D: is poorly developed and fails to use effectively details from the paper D: makes a poor attempt to analyze the subject's work D: the papers are of limited importance to the field and are not among the most important by the subject D: identifies papers that provide little or no context and that have little or no relation to the subject's own work D: presents little or no ideas for future research and fails to exploit information from the papers
F: is confused with little or no discussion of details from the papers F: provides no analysis of the work F: the papers are not important to the field and present little novel information F: fails to identify competing papers or provide a useful context F: does not present ideas for future research
