Alternative to Microsoft Office: For those of you who cannot afford to buy the Microsoft Office suite, there is an alternative in the Open Source version, OpenOffice. I have tried this program and it works well. It is available in Windows, Linux and Mac OS X versions. This program is completely free.

Entrez: a web-based search engine for journal articles from the Medline database. Entrez has the very powerful ability to identify articles closely related in content. It allows you to rapidly build bibliographies. If you are using EndNote to do your references you can import the references!

Research Port provides access to Biological Abstracts, Biomed Central and Ingenta.

If you are connected to VPN on campus you can access the PubMed database on VPN.
